Hello Parents!
I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend with your families. Monday was spent well working on things that I can do as a teacher to help my class. I look forward to implementing the tools and strategies I learned. Due to the popularity of parents that came for background checks, we will be holding a second opportunity for parents to come that missed the first time. Save the date for Monday, October 11th from 11 am to 3 pm . A note on volunteers and background checks: Any parent volunteering in the school and classrooms (e.g. reading to the class, doing spelling groups, math facts, field trips, etc.) will need to have a completed and approved background check. If you have any questions, please reach out to the front office. Calendar: Monday October 11: Parent Teacher Conferences – Early Out @ 12:45 Tuesday October 12: Parent Teacher Conferences – Early Out @ 12:45 October 13 – 15: No School – Fall Break Tuesday October 19: Restaurant Night – Chipotle Wednesday October 20: Term 1 Late Work Due Friday October 21: Term 1 Ends Monday October 25: Term 2 Starts Tuesday October 26: Picture Retakes (Uniforms) Friday October 29: Halloween Parties @ 11:15 am Donation Needs: Snacks for Fridays: On Fridays, we do not offer second chance breakfast since it is early out. However, I would still like to have Snack/Brain Break. Some students do not bring a snack so if any of you are willing to donate individually wrapped snacks to our classroom, that would be appreciated for Fridays. You can send them with your child or drop them off at the front office. Thank you to the parents who have already donated snacks! Prize Box Items: We have a prize box in our classroom that students can choose from after earning a certain amount of Dojo Points. We are always in need of small prizes to choose from. I have some options on my Amazon Wishlist or you can get some from the dollar store. Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 2 Week 1. Our phonics focus for the week is “Short e.” The Essential Questions is “What jobs need to be done in a community?” Spelling Homework and Reading Logs will be due Friday. Please practice the spelling words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Friday. If you are interested in volunteering during literacy, I have a link to a sign up at the bottom of this email. I am looking for parents to coming Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:45-10:30. You will be reading one on one with students in the hallway during that time. Please make sure you have a current background check before coming in. There may also be occasional at home projects that can count towards your volunteer hours. Volunteers are a huge help! I have already had some parents come in to help and it has been wonderful! It was wonderful to talk to many of you last week at Parent Teacher Conferences. If you were not able to come in, I have sent the handouts home with your student. You can reach out to me with any questions or if you would like to come in and meet with me after school one day. Many of you expressed a concern about the volunteer hours. Just a reminder that you need 30 hours and there are a few ways to fulfill those hours. You can sign up to come in and volunteer in the classroom on my sign-up genius that is at the bottom of this email or you can make donations to our classroom. Here are some things that would be helpful to have now: crayons, pencil top erasers, small prizes for our prize box (dollar tree), scotch tape. At the beginning of the year, I had a class set of headphones for students to use if they didn’t have their own headphones. However, most of those headphones are now broken or now working. I don’t know if that is because they are cheaply made or the way the students treat the headphones. It is very important that students have headphones when we use the iPads during literacy and math. If you can please send your child with headphones that would be appreciated, or if you would be willing to donate headphones to the classroom that would also be great. Remember for every $10 you spend, that counts toward 1 volunteer hour. Parent teacher conferences (PTCs) are coming up next week on Wednesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 5th.
