As I mentioned, I will be on vacation with my family November 18-22, so I will have a substitute for the week. I talked to my classes about appropriate behavior with a substitute, but if you could also give them a reminder to be respectful, that will be appreciated by me and the substitute. Some students think that is okay to be disrespectful to a substitute so I am hoping that will not happen this week many reminders before. Calendar: November 21: Vision Screening K-3rd and 5th Grades November 26: Dollar Dress Down Day November 27: No School, PD Day November 28 – 29: Thanksgiving Break, No School Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 2 Week 4. The weekly homework packet is due on Friday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Friday. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of Imagine Learning at home each week. Spelling words:
Math: We are continuing Chapter 4: Subtraction Strategies this week. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of iReady at home each week, in addition to their homework sheets. If you see your student struggling on iReady, you can reread the question to them, but if you help them with the question it will not accurately assess what they know. iReady is adaptive and it increasingly gets harder as students correctly finish lessons. If they don’t pass a lesson it will have them repeat the lesson again. So please try your best to not help them figure out the answer or answer it for them. Monday: Chapter 4 Lesson 5: Make a 10 to Subtract Tuesday: Lesson 6: Related Facts Wednesday: Lesson 7: Fact Families Thursday: Lesson 8: Missing Addends Friday: Chapter 4 Test Homeroom: Next week, we will continue our unit on Weather and Seasons. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer. November 11, 2019

Hello Parents, I hope you all had an enjoyable Halloween and long weekend. It was wonderful seeing many of you at the Halloween Parade on Thursday and it was so fun seeing the students in their costumes. As the weather is getting colder please make sure you send a jacket/coat with your student every day. If they want to wear a jacket in the classroom it needs to be school colors. Their jacket does not need to be school colors for recess. Please write your student’s name on the tag of their jackets. Please make sure you are dropping your student off to school on time. There are some students who are consistently late almost every day. Even if it is only a few minutes it will add up over time and that will be critical instruction time that they are missing. There are many students who do not have their own pair of headphones at school. On our supply list for the beginning of the school year we asked each student to come with a pair of headphones. I have some in my classroom, but students keep complaining that they don’t work. They are brand new, so I am not sure what is happening. I know that if students have their own headphones they take better care of them. If you can, please send a pair of headphones with your student if you haven’t already. Monday: Lesson 7: Make a 10 to Add Tuesday: Review Make a 10 to Add Wednesday: Lesson 8: Add in Any Order Thursday: Lesson 9: Add Three Numbers Friday: Chapter 3 Test Homeroom: Our Service-Learning focus for the year is Citizenship, (how to be a good citizen), so we will be doing activities that go along with that this week. We designed a flyer today for a service project that we will be doing and we will be writing letters to soldiers later in the week. Thank you so much to the parents who volunteered and helped at the Halloween party. It was very successful and all the students had a great amount of fun.
