Hello Parents, I hope you all had an enjoyable Fall Break. It was great to talk to many of you at parent teacher conferences. If you have any follow up questions, please email me and I am happy to help. The end of the term is this Thursday, October 24. All late work needs to be turn in by Tuesday October 21. Report cards will be available on Aspire on Friday. Calendar: October 24: End of 1st Term October 25: Start of 2nd Term October 28: Literacy Night, 6:00 – 7:30 pm October 31: Early out @ 12:45 pm, Halloween Parade @ 8:15 am, Class Parties Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 2 Week 1. The weekly homework packet is due on Friday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Friday. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of Imagine Learning at home each week. You can download the app on an iPad/tablet or access it on an internet browser. Spelling words:
Math: We are starting Chapter 3: Addition Strategies to 20 this week. Homework is sent home daily with students. I have decided that starting with Chapter 3, I will no longer be entering homework grades into the gradebook. I have been scoring them based off if they are turning it or not and I feel that the more important grades and scores should be based off the work that is done in the classroom. I would still like the homework to be turned in, but I will not be grading homework anymore. I will often send home the graded independent practice pages with your student. You can look at those and rework the questions they have missed, and your student can bring it back and I will give them credit for those questions or give them the points. Please also try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of iReady at home each week. Monday: Lesson 1: Count On 1, 2, or 3 Tuesday: Lesson 2: Count On Using Pennies Wednesday: Lesson 3: Use a Number Line to Add Thursday: Lesson 4: Use Doubles to Add Friday: Lesson 5: Use Near Doubles to Add Homeroom: This week in Homeroom we will be talking about the Sun and the Moon. I am still looking for parents to sign up for the class Halloween Party. This is a great volunteer opportunity. The students love seeing their parents come in and help in the classroom and class parties are one of their favorite things. It is also a great way to get volunteer hours. Our class parties are not successful without the help of wonderful parents. If you have lost the link to the sign up, please email me or my class captain and we can send that out again. I would like to have parents signed up by the end of this week so everything can be planned for the party next week. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer.
