Hello Parents, Happy Veteran’s Day! Our first grade is looking for donations to put together hygiene kits for Family Promise, a company that helps homeless families in our community. We sent home a yellow flyer with all students last week. I will attach it to this email in case you misplaced it. You have until this Wednesday to send those donations with your students. Thank you to those parents who have already given donations! As a heads up for next week, I will be on vacation with my family November 18-22, so I will have a substitute for the week. I will be talking to my classes about appropriate behavior with a substitute, but if could also give them a reminder to be respectful, that will be appreciated by me and the substitute. Some students think that is okay to be disrespectful to a substitute so I am hoping that will not happen this week many reminders before. I will send out my weekly email for next week on Friday. Calendar: November 15: Veteran’s 5K November 21: Vision Screening K-3rd and 5th Grades November 26: Dollar Dress Down Day November 27: No School, PD Day November 28 – 29: Thanksgiving Break, No School Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 2 Week 3. The weekly homework packet is due on Friday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Friday. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of Imagine Learning at home each week. Spelling words:
Math: We are starting Chapter 4: Subtraction Strategies this week. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of iReady at home each week, in addition to their homework sheets. If you see your student struggling on iReady, you can reread the question to them, but if you help them with the question it will not accurately assess what they know. iReady is adaptive and it increasingly gets harder as students correctly finish lessons. If they don’t pass a lesson it will have them repeat the lesson again. So please try your best to not help them figure out the answer or answer it for them. Monday: Chapter 4 Pretest (No Homework) Tuesday: Lesson 1: Count Back 1, 2, or 3 Wednesday: Lesson 2: Use a Number Line to Subtract Thursday: Lesson 3: Use Doubles to Subtract Friday: Lesson 4: Write a Number Sentence Homeroom: Today, we talked about Veteran’s Day and why we celebrate the holiday. Tomorrow, we will be writing Christmas cards to send to soldiers. Later in the week, we will begin our science unit on Weather. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer.
