Hello Parents!
Happy Valentine’s Day Week! It is an exciting week full of fun times! Calendar: February 10 – 14: Post Office Week and Candy Grams February 14: Class Parties 1:15 – 2:30 pm February 17: President’s Day – No School February 28: Early Out and Dollar Dress Down Day February 28 – 29: School Play: Aladdin Literacy: We took the Unit 3 Assessment today and we will be taking Benchmark 1 later this week, which will assess everything the students have learned from Unit 1, 2, and 3. Please make sure your child is here this week for these important tests. The only homework for the week is the reading log which will be due on Friday. There will be no spelling test this week. We are in the middle of first grade and I have noticed a lot of progress with my students. I am really proud of the accomplishments they have made and how far they have come. It is important that they are still practicing all the skills they are learning, so they can continue to progress. One area I think is important that you could focus on at home is handwriting. If you can, please take an extra few minutes at home each night to practice handwriting. Math: We will be starting Chapter 7: Organize and Use Graphs this week. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of iReady at home each week, in addition to their homework sheets. Monday: Chapter 6 Test (No Homework) Tuesday: Chapter 7 Pretest (No Homework) Wednesday: Lesson 1: Tally Charts Thursday: Lesson 2: Make a Table Friday: Lesson 3: Make Picture Graphs Homeroom: We will continue our unit on Maps this week. We will also write letters to people in the school building as part of post office week. Our Valentine’s party is on Friday and it will be an exciting day! Thank you for the parents who signed up to help with the Valentine’s party! The party is 1:00 – 2:15. You can show up around 12:50 to start setting up. Thank you again for your willingness to help. I sent home a flyer with the students today with information about valentine’s boxes and valentines to pass out. It is the same information I included in my email a couple weeks ago. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer.

Hello Parents, I wanted to include my volunteer sign up again at the top my weekly email. I love parents who can come in and help the students. It allows me to give them more practice on concepts that we may not always have time to practice again and again since our schedule is so busy. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0a4bada928a2fe3-volunteer Calendar: January 31: Early Out & Dollar Dress Down Day February 6: PTO Board Meeting @ 1:30 pm February 10 – 14: Post Office Week and Candy Grams February 14: Class Parties 1:15 – 2:30 pm February 17: President’s Day – No School February 28: Early Out and Dollar Dress Down Day February 28 – 29: School Play: Aladdin Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 3 Week 3. The weekly homework packet is due on Friday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Friday. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of Imagine Learning at home each week. We have finished our DIBELS testing and I am proud of the hard work and focus my students have shown. As a way to continue preparing for the End of Year DIBELS test, when you are reading with your child at home have them retell you what happened in the story. Ask them to tell you anything and everything they remember (i.e. who are the characters, what is the setting, what is the problem/solution, what happened first, next, last, etc.). They will be tested on retell at the end of the year so the more practice they get now, the more comfortable they will be with it on the test. I sent out a Scholastic Book Order form a few weeks ago, if you are wanting to order books please do so by this Friday January 31. I will be submitting the order after school. Spelling Words:

I sent out the sign-up genius for the Valentine’s Party last week. It will be on Friday February 14, 1:15 – 2:30 pm. I know that it is still a few weeks away but please see if you are available or make any adjustments if you would like to volunteer at our party. I only have two parents signed up right now and remember we can’t have a successful party without the help of parents. Hello Parents, With next week being a short week, I wanted to send out my weekly email today instead of waiting until Wednesday. Thank you for the parents who have volunteered to come help in the classroom this week and throughout the next few weeks. I greatly appreciated it and the students love when their parents come to help. If you personally can’t come into volunteer, you can send a grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, older sibling, etc. and count those hours for your volunteer hours. We are having issues with students bringing toys to class and playing with them during class instead of follow directions and completing work. Please make sure your student doesn’t bring any toys to school unless I have given them a Class Dojo coupon for it. If I continue to see toys after multiple reminders, I will have to have parents come and get them at school. Calendar: January 13 – 31: Middle of Year DIBELS Testing Window January 13 – 17: Middle of Year iReady Testing Window January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day – No School January 21: PD Day – No School January 31: Early Out & Dollar Dress Down Day Literacy: As a first grade team, we mapped out the rest of our year regarding literacy and in order for us to fit everything in we will need to do a full wonders week, Unit 3 Week 3, next week even though it is a short week. I sent home the spelling words and homework today so you will still have those 5 days to look over the words and prepare for the spelling test next Friday. The homework packet will be due next Friday. Spelling Words:

We will follow the same format from the Halloween party, so I will be looking for 5 parent volunteers. Please take a look at your schedule now and make any adjustments if you would like to volunteer at our party. We will get the sign up sent out as soon as we can. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer. January 13, 2020

Hello Parents, Thank you to the parents who have already donated to my Teachers Pay Teachers class fund that I mentioned last Monday in my email. It is greatly appreciated. As a reminder that link is located at the bottom of my email. I emailed out a sign up genius link for volunteering in the classroom last week. I had my class captain create a sign up that has individual days instead of a weekly commitment as I know some parents aren’t able to commit each week. Hello parents, I use an online website called Teachers Pay Teachers as a resource to support what we are learning in class. That website has many worksheets, activities, presentations, etc. that the students enjoy doing in class. Many of the resources I use cost $5 or less and that money adds up over the year, so I have created a "Class Fund" that you can donate money to and I can use that money towards those resources. I can guarantee that the money will be put to good use! And every $10 you donate = 1 volunteer hour. Here is the link, and it is also included in my signature at the bottom. Thank you! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/ClassFund/Ms-Hansen-28518?utm_campaign=ClassFund%20Page Just a reminder from a few weeks ago, there are many students who do not have their own pair of headphones at school. On our supply list for the beginning of the school year we asked each student to come with a pair of headphones. I have some in my classroom, but students keep complaining that they don’t work. They are brand new, so I am not sure what is happening. I know that if students have their own headphones they take better care of them. If you can, please send a pair of headphones with your student if you haven’t already.
