Hello Parents!
At the beginning of the year, I had a class set of headphones for students to use if they didn’t have their own headphones. However, most of those headphones are now broken or now working. I don’t know if that is because they are cheaply made or the way the students treat the headphones. It is very important that students have headphones when we use the iPads during literacy and math. If you can please send your child with headphones that would be appreciated, or if you would be willing to donate headphones to the classroom that would also be great. Remember for every $10 you spend, that counts toward 1 volunteer hour. Parent teacher conferences (PTCs) are coming up next week on Wednesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 5th. Spring PTC’s provide an occasion for a mid-year check in and offer an opportunity to collaborate on your child’s education. Please uses the sign ups below to sign up for a time to meet with me. When signing up to meet with a teacher, I would like to remind you to focus on signing up with your child’s literacy and math teachers and sign up for homeroom only as necessary. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b48a9a92caaf49-wednesday1 https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b48a9a92caaf49-thursday1 Calendar: February 17: President’s Day – No School February 28: Early Out and Dollar Dress Down Day February 28 – 29: School Play: Aladdin March 4 – 5: Parent Teacher Conferences March 6: No School Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 4 Week 2. The weekly homework packet is due on Friday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Friday. Starting this unit, the way vocabulary words are assessed has changed. Students will only be assessed on two vocabulary words. They will need to match the definitions, but they will also need to write two sentences using each of those words. There is practice for that on the weekly homework. Please try to have your student do 15-20 minutes of Imagine Learning at home each week. I am going to start sending home two little stories each week that focus on the spelling pattern for the week. These are stories I try to read in class, but it helps to build student’s confidence and knowledge the more exposure they have to a text. I will send them home on Tuesdays. You can count these stories towards your twenty minutes required for the reading log each night. Spelling Words:

The spelling test will be on Friday. Starting this unit, the way vocabulary words are assessed is changing. Students will only be assessed on two vocabulary words. This week the words are special and splendid. I will probably send them home on Tuesdays. We are in the middle of first grade and I have noticed a lot of progress with my students. I am really proud of the accomplishments they have made and how far they have come.
