Hello Parents, Many of you have already signed up for Parent Teacher Conferences. Those conferences are meant to discuss data regarding Literacy and Math and other concerns/questions. If I only have your child for homeroom you DO NOT need to schedule a conference with me, as there is no data to discuss for homeroom. If you are concerned about behavior you can schedule a time, but I know meeting with three teachers can be a lot, so once again, you do not need to sign up for a conference if I only have your child for homeroom. Please reach out to me with any questions regarding parent teacher conferences. I look forward to seeing you and talking with you in two weeks. We are a month and a half into the school year, and we have been enjoying the time we have spent with your children so far! They are learning a lot and I can already see the growth. First grade is a big year for learning and for gaining independence. We greatly appreciate the support that you give your student every day. However, we feel that it is important that first graders walk to their classrooms in the morning on their own to gain that independence. We understand that it may be hard for some students at first, but after enough practice of doing it on their own it will feel very comfortable. Hello Parents, I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend. As a follow up from my email last week, I have noticed a few more students who have been trying hard to listen in class. If you haven’t talked to your child, please take a few moments to sit down with your child and talk about listening and respecting teachers and adults in the classroom/school building. There are some students who have been doing an OUTSTANDING job at listening to me while I am teaching, but there are a few who still continue to talk over me and do not listen. I am working on it within in the classroom, but a comment from you as their parents would be appreciated, thank you. Starting next week, I will begin sending home spelling lists and spelling homework every week in addition to the reading logs. Thank you to the parents who have already come to volunteer in the classroom. It has been a great help to the students and to me. I greatly appreciate any and all volunteers I can get. Here at WPA called “Second Chance Breakfast.” Our regular school breakfast is before school from 7:30am – 7:50am "Second Chance Breakfast" is offered during our brain break and snack time 9:15am – 9:30am). Please take a moment and talk with your student about this program. Please talk with them if you want them participating and getting second chance breakfast or not. It is our practice here at WPA to provide a meal to any student who lines up and requests one. If they are in line, they will get breakfast and be charged $1.50(students who qualify for free & reduced lunch will also qualify for this program.) If you don’t want your student to eat, then please let them know. Also, students cannot have a before school breakfast and a second chance breakfast because the lunch program’s system will only allow them to enter a “breakfast” once per day.
