Hello parents!
We had a great first week in first grade! I enjoyed spending the week with each student and I enjoy seeing their happy faces each day. This week, we are starting to use the apps Imagine Learning and iReady in class. Those apps can be access at home as well (after the initial diagnostic placement test). I will send password cards home later in the week. Calendar August 24: Restaurant Night – Culvers August 27: Early Out @ 12:45 August 30: Beginning of Year Acadience Reading Test Begins September 6: Labor Day – No School September 14: Restaurant Night Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 1 Week 1. I sent home a homework pack today, and homework will follow that same format every week. Included in the packet is a spelling list, spelling homework (word search and vocabulary matching), fast and fluent sentences (please time your students 3 times each night while they read that), and the reading log. Spelling Homework and Reading Logs will be due every Friday. Please practice the spelling words with your student every night. We will have our first spelling test on Friday this week. Spelling tests will be every Friday. I will also give a weekly test that focus on the skills and strategies we have practiced throughout the week. If you are interested in volunteering during literacy, I have a link to a sign up at the bottom of this email. I am looking for parents to coming Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:45-10:30. You will be reading one on one with students in the hallway during that time. There may also be occasional at home projects that can count towards your volunteer hours. Volunteers are a huge help! Spelling Words: man can nap tap cat hat not does Math This week’s math lesson is Lesson 1 Count On to Add. Each math lesson is divided into sessions, with Lesson 1 having five sessions. There will be a lesson quiz on Friday. Your student came home with a “Family Letter” today that explains the lesson and gives you a few activities to try at home. That does not need to be turned in, it can stay at home. Homeroom We are talking about respect, responsibility, and positivity in homeroom this week. Donations and Volunteer Opportunities In each homeroom in the school, we have a “Class Captain.” A class captain will organize class parties for holidays, may coordinate volunteer opportunities, ask parents for donations, coordinate teacher appreciation activities, and any other things I may need done throughout the year. If you are interested in being my Homeroom Class Captain, please email me. At the bottom of this email, I have a few donations opportunities listed: an Amazon Wish List or Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Cards/Class Fund. Please check out those links if you are looking to donate to our classroom. Anything is greatly appreciated! Feel free to email me with ANY questions. I am happy to help wherever I can. I am excited to get to know your children this year and I am excited to see how they grow and learn. Thank you,
